I've been visiting Nerja for the last 40 years. These days I tend to stay at the Parador or another one of the hotels in town. This time round I rented a last minute first floor apartment from Burriana Properties at Edificio Rubarsal, Burriana Beach.
Good location for the beach however quality of the apartment was just awful and by far and away the worst property I have ever stayed at anywhere, ever!
I'm surprised Burriana Properties are happy to put their name to such a place.
Upon our evening arrival I found the apartment was horrid. It was dated, dusty, extremely noisy, cheap uncomfortable beds, horrid pillows, ill-fitting sheets, dusty old couch, a toaster from the dark ages…just awful.
Worryingly, the ground floor communal entrance door and frame showed numerous signs of forced entry attempts resulting in an extremely single flimsy YALE type latch that anyone could easily ‘pop’ open.
The block felt unsafe, I wasn't comfortable with leaving my family alone for any length of time, it had a horrible feeling about it.
The ‘directions and upon arrival info’ from Burriana Properties didn’t help. They highlighted in red the warning:-
‘VERY IMPORTANT’…Do not allow access to the property to ANYONE unless by prior appointment with Burriana Properties.
To me, it felt more like a flat on a rough old housing estate in Hackney, London rather than lovely Nerja.
Sound insulation between apartments must be non-existent. I could hear everything that neighbours were doing to the top of me, to the bottom and either side. The neighbour decided to have a shower at 1.30am and I thought they were in my bedroom cupboard. Got no sleep that night. That morning the chitter chatter, shouting and screaming of various residents continued all about me, including the ringing of a mobile phone which got me looking for mine before I realised it was coming from another apartment! Having been driven out of my mind I packed the bags and we left the property for pastures new.
Burriana properties had been responsive up until we complained. We asked if they had an alternative property available and a few hours later they replied they did not.
They told us that the apartment had only just come on the rental market and the person who had stayed prior to us had already booked again for next year. Really? More fool them is all I can say. Never again shall I book anywhere in the Edificio Rubarsal block and I’ll think twice before trusting Burriana Properties to find me a decent place if this is the sort of property they’re happy to put their name to.
We followed up with a further e-mail to Burriana properties expressing our concerns to which we’ve received no reply.
