This is an absolute must when visiting Sarasota!! This is a family business like no other. There are a few locations, this one just opened last week. Go early bread sells out fast. The lunch is authentic German food.
The potato salad is crazy good. I feel like family walking in Mama G's. Absolutely love!!!

Cute little bakery that offers bread and pastries for takeaway. Picked out a German poppyseed strudel and a chocolate croissant. The pastries taste different than expected from other local German bakeries near my home. The poppyseed reminds me of millet, and the icing sugar unfortunately didn’t balance it out. The oddest thing is the taste of the pastry flour. Instead of being buttery, flakey and flavorful it tastes a bit stodgy. The pastries look beautiful but unfortunately fall short on the taste. I’m sure this shop could do better in the future and hope to see them succeed with fresher tastes.

Leckeres Essen!
Wir haben hier gehalten für einen kurzen Snack. Die Auswahl ist gross und alles sehr frisch. Die Plunder sind wirklich fast wie in Deutschland.
Es hat genügend Plätze um das Essen vor Ort zu geniessen. Das Personal war freundlich.

Light, flaky and buttery pastry with just the right amount of filling on the danish. The pastry was delicate and light. The filling wasn’t the cheap sugary cheese, but rather a nice semi-sweet that cut the sweetness of the blueberry filling perfectly. I had a blueberry cheese danish, and my son had a Nutella danish. They were both big danishes.

This used to be my favorite bakery for fresh baked bread. Back then they were called Bavarian bread or the German bread store. I would carefully plan my Saturday mornings so I could be at the South Sarasota location before 11am when they close. I was happy when I could get them at Detweiler’s because it was closer and I could go any day of the week. You could also get them at the Mama G’s cafe by Sarasota airport. My favorites were the cranberry walnut, raisin and focaccia breads. They were very crusty, dense breads with the right layering of holes inside the bread that made it very artisanal, old world kind.
Lately though the texture and quality of the bread has diminished. It is now just spongy, light and not very satisfying.
I hope they bring back the quality breads that they used to make because I would make the trip and pay $$ for good bread.

Amazing family owned shop! All locations are fantastic! Sourdough is the best! The baked goods are so delicious!
